Frequently Asked Questions

Is This Convention a Traditional NMRA Convention?

With more than 100 clinics, more than 60 Layouts on Tour and unique Prototype Tours we think so!  It’s the same NMRA Convention with a whole lot more added to it!

What we have the ability to do with this convention is to augment our convention with so much else to see and do that it makes it possible for people that have family commitments, like vacations, to come to the NMRA Convention in 2017.  We all know very often we hear "I can't afford a family vacation and an NMRA convention."  Or we hear "There isn't any way I can go away that long and spend that much money without my spouse. It isn't fair or right to do that."  NMRA 2017 Orlando makes all this possible!

How much is Registration?

Registration through July 1, 2016 is $130, your spouse is $60 and your children under 18 are $35.  After the close of the National Train Show Convention Registration will increase.

Where is The Rosen Plaza?

It’s on International Drive, just north and next to The West Building of the Orange County Convention Center.  Right in the middle of the I-Drive tourist area, it’s a 5 minute walk to the National Train Show.

How Much is the Hotel?

The hotel is $119 per night and the rate begins on the Thursday before the convention until the Monday after the convention.  Additionally, the hotel family plan is available; there isn’t any additional charge for children ages seventeen (17) and under.  The rate is available from Thursday July 27, 2017 through Tuesday August 8, 2017

Online room reservations may be accessed from the following URL: and use the Group Code: GRPRAILROAD.  You can also call the hotel at (800) 627-8258 or (407) 996-9700 and use the same Group Code, GRPRAILROAD

As low as $119 a night is, we also understand that $119 is more than some can afford.  Within two miles of the Convention Hotel along International Drive there are more than a dozen less expensive properties priced well under $100 a night.  And if you're on International Drive, the “I Ride Trolley” offers frequent service about every twenty minutes between 8am and 10:30pm.  A 7 day pass with unlimited riding is $12.

How Do I Get There?

Orlando International Airport is currently served by more than 35 domestic and Canadian airlines.  With the high number of airlines serving Orlando airfares are very competitive.  United Airlines is the official airlines of NMRA 2017 Orlando and is offering a discount of up to 10% on all fares.  Use the code ZX2A to get the discount.

Is Amtrak Available?

Amtrak serves Orlando with 3 trains daily, The Silver Star, The Silver Meteor and The AutoTrain.  The AutoTrain departs at 4pm the day before you arrive in Central Florida and arrives at 9am the next morning.  Silver Service arrives in Orlando at 10:06am and 12:49pm.

How Do I Get to the Hotel From the Airport?

Orlando International Airport offers Shuttle Service, Private Car and Cab Services.  Shuttle Service is provided by Mears Transportation.  Shuttle Service costs $21 one way and $33 round trip.  The cost for Children is $16 one way and $25 round trip.  Cab Service costs $38 and a Private Car/Limousine is $50 one way.  Contact Mears Shuttle online at  Online Shuttle Service reservations are not required but are preferred.

How Much is There To Do for My Spouse and Kids?

As of today, we have 16 Non Rail activities and 20 General Interest Tours.  General Interest Tours include dinners and there are 2 separate Tours to NASA and the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex.  You can see all Tour Information on our website today at

This doesn’t include attractions such as Theme Parks included in the Visit Orlando Ticket Program.

How Expensive is the Food at the Hotel?

How about a Prime Rib buffet dinner for $18.95?  Or breakfast for $12.95?  There’s also a 24 hour snack bar with sandwiches, snacks, coffee and soft drinks that isn’t expensive either.  If this isn't enough for your taste or budget, Orlando has more than 5,000 restaurants and that doesn't even include fast food restaurants!

I want to see layouts in my scale, not other scales.  How do I know what is available before I decide to attend?

We have tagged the Scale for each Layout in our database.  You’ll be able to see the more information about the layouts on tour than has been available in the past along with the layout’s Control Type, Motive Power, whether it’s Steam, Diesel or Transition and many other properties.  It is available now on our website.

Have you considered.... (you name it)?

The odd thing about this question is that we haven't discounted anything except other metropolitan areas in Florida.  The distance limit on tours needs to be within a two and a half hour drive.

So we may not have considered something or considered it but didn’t include it, if you don’t mind driving or getting a shuttle or a cab to an attraction then by all means, do what interests you and enjoy yourselves!
